Obsidian Entertainment has announced The Outer Worlds. It is a cross between an fps and rpg, set in a dystopian setting in space. Obsidian shows the first images in a trailer.

Obsidian Entertainment announced the game at The Game Awards in Los Angeles. The Outer Worlds will be a single player first person shooter with sci-fi rpg elements. You take on the role of a character who landed on the Halcyon colony at the far end of the galaxy with a passenger ship.

In the colony, conglomerates have taken over and the goal is to rescue your fellow settlers from the spaceship. The trailer shows a number of monsters and other characters and despite the dystopian world, there seems to be quite a bit of humor in the game. Making choices will also become very important for the course of the story, as is often the case with games from Obsidian.

The studio made the original Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas and was also behind Pillars of Eternity. Earlier this year, Microsoft acquired the studio. The Outer Worlds will be released next year for PC and Xbox One, but also for the PlayStation 4.
