Nvidia announced a new self-driving car soc at its Graphics Technology Conference. This Drive Atlan chip will receive a next-generation Ampere-Next GPU and an Arm CPU. Vehicles with the Atlan chip will be released from 2025.

Nvidia equips its Drive Atlan chip with a next-gen Ampere-Next GPU and a next-generation Nvidia Grace-Next CPU. Earlier today, the company announced its first Grace processor with Arm cores, which is intended for data centers and will be released in 2023. This CPU would have a new generation of Arm cores.

The chip will also receive accelerators for deep learning and computer vision. The chip must be programmable for automakers, who can upgrade the chip over-the-air after release. The Atlan chip will also receive a Bluefield data processing unit, which should help the soc perform the AI computing required for autonomous vehicles.

According to Nvidia, Atlan can perform up to a trillion operations per second. That’s about four times more than Nvidia’s Drive Orin soc, which can perform about 254 billion operations per second and will be used in consumer cars starting next year. The first vehicles with the Atlan chip will appear from 2025, according to Nvidia.
