Nvidia announces its first GeForce RTX 40 GPUs for laptops. These video cards are based on the Ada Lovelace architecture and therefore receive support for DLSS 3, among other things. The first laptops with RTX 40 GPU will be released in February.

Nvidia introduced at CES five different RTX 40 video cards. The GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 are Nvidia’s flagship laptop models. The RTX 4090 features 9728 CUDA cores, just like the RTX 4080 desktop graphics card. The GPU will receive 16GB of GDDR6 memory with a 256-bit memory bus. The GPU achieves clock speeds of up to 2040MHz and, according to Nvidia, has a power consumption of 80 to 150W.

The GeForce RTX 4080 laptop card in turn features 7424 CUDA cores and 12GB of memory on a 192bit memory bus. According to Nvidia, this GPU reaches clock speeds of up to 2280MHz with a power consumption of 60 to 150W. Both graphics cards, as with current RTX 40 desktop cards, feature a dual video encoder with AV1 support.

Nvidia also introduces three lower positioned laptop video cards. The RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 are aimed at 1440p gaming, according to Nvidia. The RTX 4070 gets 4608 CUDA cores, while the RTX 4060 gets 3072. Both video cards get 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a 128-bit memory bus. Nvidia does not list memory speeds or bandwidth.

The GeForce RTX 4050 will be the entry-level model in Nvidia’s RTX 40 lineup for laptops. This video card gets 2560 CUDA cores and also gets a consumption of 35 to 115W. The video card is also equipped with 6GB of GDDR6 memory and a 96-bit memory bus. The RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 all get support for features like DLSS Frame Generation and a single video encoder with AV1 support.

The five RTX 40 laptop graphics cards, like their desktop counterparts, are based on the Ada Lovelace architecture that Nvidia introduced last year. The GPUs are produced at TSMC on the 4N process. The video cards also receive new MaxQ optimizations. According to the manufacturer, DLSS 3 is optimized for laptops, with which the technology should provide a longer battery life. Also, according to the manufacturer, the laptop video cards come with lower voltage GDDR6 memory. According to Nvidia, the integrated memory controller will also have more options to switch back to more energy-efficient memory states.

The first laptops with a GeForce RTX 4090 or RTX 4080 will appear on February 8. According to Nvidia, such laptops will be available from $ 1999. Converted and with VAT, this amounts to 2291 euros. The RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 will follow on February 22. Laptops with such a video card have a starting price of 999 dollars, which, converted and with VAT, amounts to 1145 euros.
