Nokia has sold its Health division to Eric Careel, a co-founder of Withings. The Health division came about after Nokia bought Withings several years ago. It is unknown how much Careel paid for it.
Earlier this month, Nokia said it was negotiating with Carreel to sell the division to Withings co-founder. Now Nokia has confirmed the sale without giving any details. Nokia’s Digital Health division arose a few years ago from the acquisition of the French Withings. Nokia paid 170 million euros for the French company two years ago.
In February, an internal memo from Nokia came online stating that the company was planning to divest its Digital Health division. It was the only division of the company that makes consumer products, after the sale of the telephone branch to Microsoft in 2014.
If the sale is successful, Nokia only wants to focus on selling licenses and network equipment to companies. Smartphones and watches come from HMD Global, a company from Finland licensed under the Nokia brand name. Most attention was recently drawn to the Nokia Health division with a sleep tracker.
