HMD has announced a new version of the Nokia 8 at Mobile World Congress. The Sirocco variant has a 5.5″ OLED screen, is equipped with 6GB of RAM and has 128GB of storage space. It is an Android One device that runs on Android Oreo.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5.5″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The resolution is the same as the screen of the Nokia 8 that HMD released last year, but that was a 5.3″ LCD. The screen edges are made thinner on the side, so that the larger screen fits into the device.

The fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back and the housing has been adjusted on more points, the new Nokia 8 Sirocco consists almost entirely of glass. The first model has a metal housing. HMD has also omitted the 3.5mm jack on the new device.

Like the Nokia 8, the Sirocco version has a Snapdragon 835-soc, but the new model gets 6GB instead of 4GB ram. The storage space has also been expanded to 128GB of flash memory. The new model has two cameras and this time there is a lens with a longer focal length for the second camera, so that 2x ‘optical zoom’ is possible.

In its announcement, HMD calls the Nokia 8 Sirocco a ‘limited edition’, but whether that will affect the number of copies that will be for sale is not clear. The manufacturer says that the new device will be delivered in the Benelux from May for a suggested retail price of 749 euros.
