Renders have been released of the Nokia 7.1, a device from HMD with a 5.84″ screen that has a notch. The device is expected to come to Europe and cost about 350 euros. If that’s true, it will be HMD’s first Nokia. device with such a ‘notch’ for the European market.

The German website WinFuture has put the renders online and also publishes specifications. There is a mention of the Nokia 7.1 on the Spanish Amazon website. The LCD has an 18.7:9 ratio and is said to have a resolution of 2246×1080 pixels. In the notch are a front camera with an eight-megapixel resolution, a speaker and presumably also a notification LED. Furthermore, the proximity and light sensor are located in the recess.

HMD would provide the Nokia 7.1 with a Snapdragon 636-soc, 3GB ram and 32GB storage space. On the back is a dual camera, with sensors of twelve and two megapixels. The device is about 8mm thick and weighs 159 grams and contains a 3000mAh battery.

The Snapdragon 636-soc is slower than, say, the Snapdragon 660, which uses HMD in the Nokia 7 Plus that has been on sale since March. Presumably there will also be a Nokia 7.1 Plus. That device is probably already listed by the Chinese authority Tenaa and would have a Snapdragon 710-soc and a 6.1 “screen.

At release, the Nokia 7.1 would run on Android 8.1. Like all devices that HMD releases in Europe, it is an Android One device that receives timely upgrades and updates. According to WinFuture, the device will be for sale from October 22 and the phone will cost around 350 euros in Europe. There may be more expensive versions with more storage memory.

HMD has not yet released Nokia smartphones in Europe with a notch in the screen. The brand did that in China, where the Nokia X5, X6 and X7 appeared. HMD also recently released the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus in India, with notches in the screen. These devices may also come to Europe at a later date.
