Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is set in Iceland. Developer Ninja Theory shows in a video how the team visits the island and collects data there to recreate the landscape realistically. New images of the game have not yet been shown.

Forty locations in Iceland have been selected for the game. Those locations are captured in high resolution by Quixel, which was acquired by Epic last year. The photo-realistic scans of environments that Quixel makes are available in the Unreal Engine. It was previously announced that Hellblade II will use Unreal Engine 5.

Ninja Theory also brought an audio team and band to Iceland to record local sounds. Everything in the new game is based on something from the real world, according to the makers. This applies not only to sounds and environments but also to the clouds and light.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was announced late last year. A trailer was shown, which according to Microsoft consists of images that are included in the engine. The game is being made for Xbox consoles and Windows 10. The first part was also released for other consoles, but Ninja Theory has been acquired by Microsoft, so the title now appears exclusively on Xbox consoles.

The first part is inspired by Nordic mythology and Celtic culture. The main character Senua suffers from psychosis. The studio collaborated with mental health specialists, patients and neuroscientists to realistically reflect this. The new game is probably about similar themes. New substantive details have not been announced.
