New industry veteran development studio Shield Break Studios has announced the Unreal Engine 4 game Bierzerkers. It is a fighting game in which players fight as a team and that takes place in the afterlife of the ancient Vikings.

The studio, which consists of former employees of Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games, Activision and Certain Affinity, among others, does not have a realistic game in mind with Bierzerkers. “We’re throwing realism out the window,” lead developer Will Harris said in a statement sent Thursday. “It’s about fun. In Bierzekers, you’ll crush your enemies and hear the laments of their followers,” Harris said.

Bierzekers will revolve around hack ‘n slash gameplay, with the developers drawing their inspiration from their own favorite melee games. More is not yet known about the gameplay. What is clear is that Bierzerkers will also have an important online component. It is not yet clear whether that part or a possible single player part will prevail in the game. Shield Break Studios will be attending Pax Prime in Seattle, where more information about the fighting game is likely to be revealed.

Until then, Bierzerkers’ most important achievement is probably that the game is made with the Unreal Engine 4. Epic Games’ Joe Kreiner, who is responsible for issuing Unreal Engine licenses in America, said he was impressed from the start. have been the project of Shield Break Studios. It is not yet known when Bierzekers should appear and whether the game will be developed for other platforms outside of the expected PC version.
