New Porsche 911 GT3 RS does the ‘green hell’ in 6.56 minutes

On 16 April, Porsche with the new 911 GT3 RS on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring set a new standard for street-legal racing cars: Porsche factory driver Kévin Estre realized at the wheel of the 520 hp 911 GT3 RS a lap time of 6.56.4 minutes.

This improved the time of the previous 911 GT3 RS by approximately 24 seconds. Besides Estre test driver Lars Kern also came into action. After the 918 Spyder and the 911 GT2 RS, the new 911 GT3 RS Porsche’s third production model that, under notarial supervision, managed to set a time of less than 7 minutes on the most challenging track in the world, also known as the ‘green hell’ . The measurements took place on the usual 20.6 km long route.

The 29-year-old Frenchman Kévin Estre has been a Porsche factory driver since 2016. He is active with the 911 RSR in the WEC and with the 911 GT3 R in the ADAC Masters. Estre began its record round at 11.40 am under optimal conditions: the air temperature was 14 degrees Celsius and the tire temperature 18 degrees.

The 911 GT3 RS

The new 911 GT3 RS with its undercarriage, rear-wheel drive and a 383 kW / 520 hp 4.0-liter atmospheric six-cylinder boxer engine sprints from 0 to 100 km in 3.2 seconds / h and achieves a top speed of 312 km / h. It is available from € 272,900.

At the Nürburgring, he was equipped with the latest generation of Michelin tires, Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires (265/35 ZR 20 before, 325/30 ZR 21 rear), which are especially suitable for use during trackdays. They comply with European and American legal requirements. These tires have been released for 911 GT3 RS and the 911 GT2 RS. They will soon be available through all Porsche centers.
