New Meta Ray-Ban glasses leak in video: a size bigger

The new Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses have leaked, and images show that they retain the same signature Ray-Ban design, but are significantly thicker. These aren’t still images, but video footage.

Meta Ray-Ban

These are glasses developed with EssilorLuxottica, a brand that manufactures countless sunglasses for various brands, including Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Previous Ray-Bans of this tech-savvy design were also developed in conjunction with that company. However, these new glasses don’t just offer a slight design change: they also feature a screen integrated into the lens. This is new: current glasses don’t have one, which relies entirely on the AI assistant (which is unfortunately not available in the Netherlands).

So it’s very exciting to see this AI assistant now appear in the glasses as a visual presence. Meta AI can be seen in the glasses, for example, answering a question in text. You also see how people seem to be able to read messages in a WhatsApp-like way. You can also view your navigation this way and get translations of what someone you’re talking to is saying. It’s interesting stuff, and we’re curious, among other things, how this will work in real life: what if you’re walking, or even more intensely, driving a car? Is all that even responsible?

On the other hand, we know Meta’s stance on these matters: they give the public a platform or a gadget, and they don’t really see what they do with it as their responsibility. So it seems that perhaps there should be clearer, or stricter, regulations from the political side when it comes to augmented reality glasses. Especially since Meta isn’t the only one working on this: Samsung and Snap are also working on such glasses.

Meta Connect 2025

The glasses will likely be announced on September 17th, when Meta Connect 2025 takes place. The device is expected to have a hefty price tag of €800 and will be released in 2026.

It might be a bit confusing, but the previous version is expected to be released in the Netherlands at the end of September. However, this one will be released without Meta AI, which is likely due to European regulations. This essentially makes it a pair of glasses with a camera, allowing you to post content directly to Instagram. Meta AI is even said to prioritize content shot with these glasses on the social media platform.
