New in macOS Mojave: Continuity camera

 Last Monday macOS Mojave appeared, and the new operating system has many useful new features. One is Continuity Camera. This will display a photo or scan that you take with your iPhone or iPad, directly on your Mac. Importing photos is therefore no longer necessary. How to set Continuity Camera

Setting Continuity Camera

To use this function, your Mac and iPhone must meet a number of requirements.

  • You have a Mac with macOS Mojave and an iPhone or iPad with iOS 12 .
  • You use the same Apple ID on both devices.
  • The devices are both on the same Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth is activated.
  • Handoff must be activated on both devices
    Mac: “System Preferences> General> Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.”
    iPhone or iPad : “Settings> General> Handoff”

In which apps does it work?

Continuity camera works in various Apple apps. Some third-party apps are also supported. These are the apps you can use anyway:

  • Pages
  • Numbers
  • Keynote
  • Finder
  • Mail
  • Messages
  • Notes
  • Text editor

How to make a photo

  • Open one of the apps above.
  • Go to the document where you want the photo to appear.
  • Ctrl-click in the document and select ‘Make photo’ or ‘Scan documents’ in the menu. Sometimes you first have to click on ‘Import from iPhone’.
  • On the iPhone, the camera app opens automatically: you can take a photo directly.
  • Tap your iPhone on ‘Use photo’ and the photo will appear immediately on your Mac.
