Netgear will soon release a new WiFi router in the Nighthawk series. The Netgear Nighthawk X4S AC2600 with type number R7800 is an 802.11ac router with quadstream WiFi on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

The router with a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, 512MB ram and 128MB flash memory can achieve a maximum WiFi throughput of 2.53Gbit/s if all connections on both 2.4 and 5GHz are used, so four data streams per WiFi band. The soc used is a Qualcomm Atheros IPQ 8065. The maximum connection speed on 2.4GHz is 800Mbit/s if all four channels are used. For the 5GHz band, the maximum throughput is 1733Mbit/s, which amounts to about 433Mbit/s per channel. The router makes use of multi-user multiple input multiple output, or mu-mimo, among other things. For this, the router uses Quantenna’s Wave 2 technology. Furthermore, the router has five gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports and an e-Sata port. The router is the successor to the R7500 released in 2014.

It is possible to set your own quality of service software for different devices and services, so that bandwidth can be set per device or service. Furthermore, there is built-in VPN support as standard and a separate network access for guests. Netgear MyMedia can search for video and audio files on the network for the user and transmit them to DLNA televisions and music systems.

The X4S AC2600 will be available soon for a suggested retail price of 299 euros.
