Netflix has increased the monthly prices of its Standard and Premium subscriptions. The Standard package will be 1 euro more expensive than before, the monthly rate for the Premium package will increase by 2 euros.

Due to the change, Standard now costs 10.99 euros per month and Premium 13.99 euros per month. The price of the Basic subscription remains unchanged. The price hike applies to all subscribers, not just new customers, the Associated Press reports.

The video service will email customers about the changes from October 19, and they will then have one month to accept or reject the new terms and conditions. The price increase applies worldwide. In 2014 and 2015, Netflix also increased its prices, but it only affected new customers of the service.

Netflix already reports the new prices on its site, but does not mention a reason for the increase. The company invests large amounts to be able to offer exclusive films and series. This year, that would be an investment of $ 6 billion.

Update Friday, 10.00: Netflix said in a statement that the reason for the price increase was adding more exclusive TV shows and movies, introducing new functionality and improving “the entire Netflix experience.”
