A modder has converted a toy chainsaw into what he calls the Painsaw. Inside the toy, he has mounted a RaspBerry Pi Zero and a screen so that the Painsaw Doom II can run.

George Merlocco describes how he bought an Echo Junior Chainsaw at the toy store and converted it into the Painsaw. ‘A love letter addressed to Doom’ according to the man. In the system, he built a 4400mAh battery and an Adafruit PowerBoost 1000 charger to power the Raspberry Pi Zero.

The 40-pin GPU header was connected to an Adafruit Pi TFT 2.2″ screen with a resolution of 320×240 pixels. A USB hub is also integrated, which includes a nano receiver for connection to a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the HDE XBOX360 receiver for connection to a controller. The sound card connected Merlocco to the original speaker in the toy.

The Painsaw runs Raspbian and the Chocolate Doom port. Merlocco has posted a “vhs video” dated the release date of the V1.0 version of Doom II online.
