Motorola will use iFixit to sell tools and parts that allow users to carry out repairs on their Motorola smartphones. The first kits are intended for devices that came out in 2016 and 2017.

IFixit tells that Motorola is the first to use the repair specialist in this way. The parts and tools are also accompanied by manuals from the manufacturer that explain how a repair should be carried out. The current offer includes batteries and screens, intended for the Moto G4 and G5, Droid Turbo 2, Z, Z Play, Z Force, X and X Pure. Those devices come from 2016 and 2017.

Why the two do not offer repair kits for later Motorola phones, is not told. However, it is pointed out that sending a phone under warranty remains an option and that they see the move as a step forward in the battle for a right to repair. The kits cost 34.99 to 39.99 dollars for new batteries and 74.99 to 199.99 dollars for new screens. In the European iFixit store the kits can not be found at the time of writing.
