In light of Microsoft’s quarterly earnings release, the company said players have downloaded more than a billion mods, add-ons, and other experiences through the Minecraft marketplace.

In a verbal explanation of the latest quarterly figures, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says that creatives have generated $350 million by offering, for example, homemade mods and add-ons in the Minecraft marketplace. That $350 million comes from more than a billion downloads. Presumably this amount concerns the total revenue from players who pay for the download of mods and add-ons.

This amount does not go entirely to the makers of the mods and add-ons. When the marketplace for Minecraft was launched in April 2017, Microsoft indicated that it has a model in which “more than 50 percent of the revenue goes to the creators.” That means that Microsoft also has a considerable amount left over from the sale of the mods and add-ons through the Minecraft marketplace.

The game continues to be popular and had nearly 140 million monthly active users in the quarter, a 30 percent increase from the number in the first three months of last year.
