Just over a month after the PS3 port of Minecraft came out, the game has sold over a million copies. That’s a lot for a title that doesn’t come on a physical disc, but is only available as a download.

The one-million-game sales figure was announced Friday by Minecraft publisher and developer Mojang, coming five weeks after the PS3 version was released. It is exceptional that a game that is downloaded so many times only via the PlayStation online store in such a short period of time. Minecraft, originally a PC game, was previously released for Android, iOS and the Xbox 360.

Mojang promises some improvements in the PS3 version of the sandbox game, in which the aim is to build structures with cube-shaped blocks that must be mined first. It is not known what kind of improvements are involved.
