Microsoft’s Your Phone app forwards Android notifications to Windows

Microsoft has updated its Your Phone app so that it can now show notifications from Android smartphones on systems with Windows. More devices now also support screen mirroring, including the OnePlus 6. It is still about previews.

According to Microsoft, this is a preview that allows users of Your Phone, or ‘Companion app for Your Phone’, to receive incoming smartphone notifications in Windows. The app displays the notifications in the standard pop-ups as the operating system displays for notifications within Windows.

Users can also see all smartphone notifications within Your Phone in Windows, indicate which notifications they want to receive and delete notifications individually or bundled. The preview will initially appear for Insiders users running the 19H1 version of Windows. Using the Your Phone app requires at least build version 1803 of Windows, i.e. the April 2018 Update, in conjunction with the Android app, which requires at least version 7.0 of that operating system.

Microsoft also reports that the number of smartphones that support screen mirroring has been expanded with the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, and with the Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, Note 8 and Note 9. Microsoft announced this feature in mid-March. Users can use it to show their smartphone screen on their PC. Then it worked with Samsung’s Galaxy S8, S8+, S9 and S9+ in combination with Microsoft’s Surface Go.
