Microsoft will finally pull the plug on Wunderlist on May 6 next year. From that date it is no longer possible to synchronize to-dos. Users can still export their lists to Microsoft’s own To Do app.

The end of the popular to-do list app has been coming for some time, but Microsoft has now announced the final end date in a blog post. As of May 6, 2020, the app will still be available, but users will no longer be able to sync to-do lists in their account. After that period, the app can be used ‘for a while’ so that users can export their tasks and import them back into To Do. That is the app that Microsoft has made itself that should serve as an alternative to Wunderlist. As of Tuesday, new users will no longer be able to create an account. The company has created a tool that should allow importing at the touch of a button. A Microsoft account is required for this.

According to the company, Microsoft’s own To Do app has all the features Wunderlist users have been asking for. The application is given subtasks and users can add lists to groups. It is also possible to add attachments to lists. The app integrates with other Microsoft applications such as Outlook and Cortana.

Microsoft acquired Wunderlist in 2015 for an amount of between 91 and 183 million euros. In 2017, Microsoft announced that it wanted to build its own to-do app simply called To Do. For that, the company wanted to use the technology behind Wunderlist. The company itself wasn’t too happy about that. Founder Christian Reber said in September he was “sad” that Microsoft wanted to stop Wunderlist. He also suggested buying the company back, although he had no concrete plans to do so.
