Microsoft will update Outlook in the browser at the end of July, including a display option for a dark mode. Users can also attach categories as tags to posts after the update.
Microsoft has been testing the new Outlook for the web for eight months with users who already had it available through an opt-in. At the end of July, the company will start a phased release of the updated webmail client, with the opt-in toggle disappearing.
Outlook for the web will include a dark display. The ‘turn on the light’ option allows users to display specific messages they want to read or compose in light mode. Also new is the Categories option, which allows users to add multiple tags to messages to organize them and make them easier to find. The option to mark Favorites should also help. Items with a Favorites status also appear in the Outlook mobile app as such thanks to synchronization.
With Expressions, emoji and gifs can be added to messages directly from Outlook, and messages in process are given separate tabs. There are also improvements in search and meeting creation and participation.
