Microsoft has pulled the code for the operation of telephony over mobile networks from the latest builds for Windows 10. That reports a developer who is working on a full Windows version for the Lumia 950 smartphone.

The code for how mobile telephony works is no longer in build 18912 of Windows 10, the most recent version of the operating system for Insiders’ Fast Ring. That is a version of Windows 10 20H1, the update that should appear in the first half of next year.

The disappearance of the code means that work on the Windows 10 version for the Lumia 950 can no longer continue, reports developer Gustave Monce. It appears to be a removal of code for the operation of mobile telephony in several places in the operating system. That code is probably no longer needed, because Microsoft has stopped support for smartphones with Windows 10 Mobile.

Monce has been developing Windows 10 for the Lumia 950 for months. Thanks to the networking stack of telephony, he was able to make calls with the smartphone with the full version of Windows 10, among other things. That will no longer be possible in the future.
