Microsoft puts Windows 10 Anniversary Update release date online – update
Microsoft will likely release the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 2. The software giant published a news item containing that news fact, but the page in question has since been taken offline.
The news item that Microsoft published Tuesday only contained the title, which shows the release date. It is no secret that Microsoft will come with the major update for Windows 10 this summer, but until now there was no exact release date.
The Anniversary Update for Windows 10 will, among other things, add the Windows Ink functionality for working with pens on touchscreens. Also, Hello biometric authentication will be extended to Edge. Users can then log in to websites with a fingerprint, for example, if they build in support for this. It will also be possible to use Cortana in the Benelux, although only the English language is still supported.
The update was announced by Microsoft in March and is coming to all Windows 10 devices for free. In addition to PCs, the Xbox One will also receive the Anniversary Update. Because Microsoft speaks of a ‘birthday update’, it is likely that it will appear around July 29. On that day, Windows 10 is one year old. If the August 2 release date is correct, that is a few days after the anniversary.
Update, Wednesday: Microsoft has put the link back online, now with the entire message below. The update will indeed be released on August 2.
