Microsoft: Possibly postponement of Vista introduction in Europe

Microsoft has let know that the introduction of Windows Vista in Europe may be delayed. Whether the release goes ahead on the planned date will depend on whether the operating system meets European Commission antitrust requirements, Microsoft said. However, the European Commission disagrees with this reading, stating that it is Microsoft’s responsibility to comply with the relevant regulations and that the European Commission is not the cause of any delay. Microsoft and the European Commission have been in a legal battle since 2004 over the European Commission’s decision to fine a €500 million fine for Microsoft’s abuse of its monopoly position, and an additional €281 million was added this year. Microsoft plans to start shipping Vista to businesses in November this year and the operating system should be available for consumers in January.
