Microsoft makes the ability to run Linux programs with a graphical interface widely available. Windows Subsystem for Linux will also receive support for running applications that use the GPU for machine learning.

Developers can install support for gui apps, open a WSL window, and run a Linux app with a gui, Microsoft said. For example, they can run editors, programs and tools for Linux with a graphical interface. Support was already in recent Windows 10 Insiders builds in the OS dev channel.

In addition, Microsoft has made it possible for applications that run via Windows Subsystem for Linux to use the GPU for calculations. The company specifically mentions applications for artificial intelligence and machine learning that benefit from this.
