Microsoft has added new features to its online office package Office 365. ‘Social’ features are being built in, which are mainly aimed at business. The features come from the Yammer business social network.

Microsoft has announced this via its blog. In the new Office 365 software it is possible to create a so-called Office Graph; in it, users see in a kind of spider’s web how they have a relationship with each other. This feature is primarily intended for corporate use and was already available to Yammer users. Information from Office Graph will also be made available via an app, currently codenamed Oslo. It is unclear for which operating systems it will be made available

It will also be possible to create groups with users in Office 365. A separate inbox for messages and a news feed is then automatically created for these users. It is also possible to designate these groups as ‘private’, so that they cannot be seen by others within the company. This should make it easier to work together in small groups.

Finally, Yammer’s chat functionality will be integrated with Office 365. Microsoft promises that in the future Yammer will also be integrated with Lync and Skype, two other communication tools that Microsoft owns.
