Microsoft has released the first preview build of its Chromium-based Edge browser for Linux. The initial release has support for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and openSUSE. The Linux version does not have all the functionality yet.

The first version of Edge for Linux only supports local accounts. Users cannot yet log into Edge through a Microsoft account or Azure Active Directory. Features such as synchronizing settings and favorites are therefore not yet available. They will come to Edge for Linux in the future, Microsoft says .

Microsoft says that with the preview release, Microsoft wants to offer a ‘representative experience’ to developers who develop apps and sites on Linux. The built-in DevTools would generally behave the same as with the Windows and macOS versions. Also, Microsoft is now accepting entries to Edge ‘s bug bounty program for the Linux version.

The Linux version of Edge is available for download from Microsoft’s Insider website . A .deb package and a .rpm file are available. The browser is now available on all major PC platforms. First the new Edge browser appeared in Windows and then came a macOS version as well.
