Microsoft will end support for Edge Legacy on March 9 next year. In addition, the company is announcing the end of support for Teams and Microsoft 365 for Internet Explorer 11.

End of support for Edge Legacy on March 9, 2021 means that the browser will no longer receive security updates from that date. By then, most users will already be using the new Edge on Chromium browser as Microsoft is making it part of Windows 10’s 20H2 upgrade, which will be released in the fall. In addition, Microsoft is already distributing the browser via Windows Update. According to the company, millions of users have already updated their browsers to the new version.

Microsoft is also phasing out support for Internet Explorer 11. From November 30, Teams will no longer work with that browser, and from August 17 next year, the other apps and services in the Microsoft 365 offering will no longer support IE 11. This means that those services can no longer be used with the browser. IE 11 is still in use in some corporate environments due to specific business applications developed for the browser. Microsoft reports that the change is difficult for some customers, but says they can get more out of Microsoft 365 with Edge on Chromium. Microsoft 365 is the name of Microsoft’s subscriptions for a bundle of online services, including Office 365.
