Meta releases speed update for Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets
Meta has released its v55 update for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets. This includes increasing the CPU and GPU clock speeds of both headsets. Meta previously announced that it would improve the performance of the two VR glasses in an update.
The Meta Quest v55 update increases the GPU clock speed of the Quest 2 by 19 percent, while that of the Quest Pro is increased by 11 percent. The CPUs of both devices will increase by 26 percent, the tech giant says. The update should provide ‘smoother gameplay’ and a more responsive interface, Meta claims.
Both headsets also feature dynamic resolution scaling, which adjusts the headset’s rendering resolution during use for better performance. According to Meta, this allows games and apps to use a ‘higher pixel density without frame drops’. In the v55 update, the Facebook Messenger app gets a standalone VR app, the Explore page is updated and the Meta Quest Browser gets multitouch support.
Meta announced the Quest 3 last month. This improved VR headset will include a new SoC, color cameras for video passthrough and a higher screen resolution. The tech giant already promised at that announcement that the company would release an update that will improve the performance of its existing Quest 2 and Pro. Meta did not say at the time when that update would appear.
