The well-known memory testing program Memtest86+ has had an update for the first time in nine years. In addition, the entire program has been rebuilt from scratch for uefi and for recognizing DDR4 and DDR5.
Memtest86+ has got a big update to version 6.00. That’s the first update the tool has had since 2013, when the tool was split and a part was sold to the company PassMark. Nothing has happened to the development of the tool since then. Memtest86+ has since been made open source available under a GPL license. The tool dates back to the 90s and has always been one of the better known software for testing memory in PCs.
The makers have rewritten the entire underlying code with version 6.00 so that it now supports both 32bit or 64bit UEFI. Also, the tool can finally recognize DDR4 and DDR5 memory, making Memtest practically useful for most average users for the first time in a long time.
The tool now also has support for AMD Zen architecture for chips between the Ryzen 1000 and 7000, as well as for XMP 3.0 and for Sdram. Users must disable Secure Boot and boot the tool from a live USB stick if they want to use it. The code is still available open source.
