The developers of LineageOS have announced version 15.1 of the custom Android ROM. The software is based on Android 8.1. Initially, there is support for thirteen devices.

The version of LineageOS 15.1 that appears on Monday is a nightly build, after an experimental build appeared last weekend. Initially, there will be support for only the Nexus 6P and 5X, the LeEco Le Pro3 and Pro3 Elite, the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and 8.0 and the Xiaomi Mi 5, 5S and 5S Plus. .

The developers of LineageOS skipped Android 8.0, version 14.1 was based on Android 7.1 Nougat. New to version 15.1 is the Styles functionality, which allows users to choose colors and switch between a light and dark mode. Furthermore, the camera app now supports QR code scanning by default and the Trebuchet launcher has undergone a makeover; it now supports adaptive icons and icon packs, among other things.

The most significant change is what the development team calls Project Treble; the hardware management code is adapted to the current Android standard. This means that new versions of LineageOS may appear sooner after an Android release. In addition, the code has been cleaned up and obsolete and unused parts have been removed.

With the release, support for LineageOS 13.0 has ended and this version will only receive security updates. Version 14.1 will still be supported but will probably no longer get new functionality now that the developers have switched to Android Oreo.
