Lineage introduces sdk with APIs for Styles and Profiles

The developers of Android custom ROMs called Lineage have released an SDK containing APIs for some of LineageOS’ features. For example, developers can add support for Styles and Profiles in apps.

Devices with LineageOS 15.1 will receive support for the SDK with the build of next week, Lineage reports. The SDK currently only contains the APIs for Styles and Profiles, but Lineage wants to expand the number of functions of the SDK. Developers can code in Java and Kotlin, as Lineage has tested the APIs with both.

With the sdk, apps can offer support for Styles and Profiles. Styles is how devices integrate themes and and when apps support that, they implement the user’s theme into their own app. Apps can also offer users their own color palettes. Profiles adjust things like volume based on time, location or other conditions. Apps can let users add profiles.

The functions will only work on devices that run LineageOS and the integration of the APIs has no effect on other Android devices. It is unknown which apps will integrate the APIs.
