LG will release 42″ and 97″ OLED TVs this year. Both formats were previously unavailable. The 42″ variant appears in the C2 series and 83″ is the largest size in that series. The new 97″ TV appears in the higher-ranking G2 series.

LG will release six OLED TVs in the C2 series this year. These are televisions with diagonals of 42″, 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″ and 83″. It is the first time that LG is releasing an OLED TV in the 42″ format. The manufacturer of those panels, LG Display, already announced at the beginning of last year that this format was on the way. For the time being, LG only talks about a 42″ TV. model in the C series. It is not yet known whether there will also be a smaller model in the cheaper A and B series.

The G2 series is also getting a new format. This is a 97″ OLED TV. Just like last year, the series of 4K TVs also includes a 55″, 65″ and 77″ model. LG already had an 88″ OLED TV in its range, but that is a model in the Z series with 8k resolution. That 88″ OLED TV currently costs about 20,000 euros. It is not yet known what the price of the 97″ model will be.

Just like last year, LG uses so-called evo panels in the G series. They have a slightly higher brightness than the panels in the lower positioned series. According to LG, the G2 TVs can deliver more brightness than their predecessors due to improved heat dissipation and a new image processor with Brightness Booster technology.

LG’s 2022 OLED TVs will get up to four HDMI 2.1 ports that support “multiple HDMI 2.1 functions.” The manufacturer has not yet disclosed exact details. LG provides ‘most’ OLED TVs this year with the Alpha 9 Gen 5 image processor. That would offer better image quality with upscaling and LG promises virtual 7.1.2 surround sound from the TV speakers.

According to LG, there is a new feature to choose presets from the Game Optimizer menu that improve picture settings for gaming. There is a new Dark Room Mode and G-Sync and FreeSync settings can also be found here. A new ‘sports mode’ has also been added, in addition to presets for shooters, RPGs and strategy games.

LG will also come with new QNED TVs in 2022. These are LCD TVs with a mini LED backlight. LG has not yet announced specifications of the new models. All the details about LG’s new TVs will be revealed on Tuesday at the CES electronics show. The company’s virtual exhibition stand can be viewed from 5 p.m. on 4 January.

WebOS with personal profiles

LG’s TVs run on webOS and that platform will get a new interface and support for user profiles. With this, for example, fast access to streaming services can be set up per person. You can log in to a profile via the TV browser or with the NFC Magic Tap function via a smartphone.

Furthermore, according to LG, the TVs can be used as a smart home hub. This works via LG’s ThinkQ AI and thus other ThinkQ devices with voice control can be controlled via the TV. The TVs also have support for the Matter smart home standard.
