LG introduced its first bendable OLED TV at the IFA in Berlin, the LG Flex. It is an OLED TV with a screen diagonal of 42 inches, the curvature of which can be adjusted to the user’s preference both via a button and manually.

The LG Flex with model name LX3 can according to the manufacturer from completely straight to a curvature of 900R. That is equal to the curvature of a circle with a radius of 0.9 meters. That’s quite a curvature; many gaming monitors with a curvature do not go beyond a curvature of 1000R, which is a curvature of a circle with a radius of one meter.

This curvature can be achieved in two ways. Users can use a dedicated button on the remote control to choose from two pre-set curvature positions, which are then automatically performed by a motor. It is unclear whether more presets can be added to this and whether the preset two modes can be adjusted. In addition, it is possible to manually adjust the degree of curvature in steps of 5 percent. Thus, 20 different levels of curvature are possible.

LG does not disclose which OLED TV this model is based on, but the LX3 closely resembles a bendable version of the 42″ C2 OLED TV. Many specifications match, such as the 4k resolution, support for Dolby Vision at 4k120 , support for HDMI 2.1 and the associated features, the present A9 Gen 5 processor and the EVO panel for a relatively higher brightness.

There are also the necessary deviations that should mainly contribute to the use of the LX3 as a monitor. For example, there are two forward-facing 40W speakers and a coating that should partly prevent reflections. In addition to adjusting the curvature, the screen can also be partially tilted and adjusted in height. DisplayPort connections are missing.

There will also be an option later this year to adjust the size of the image on the TV, something that LG sees for example in certain game genres such as RTS games or shooters, where gamers may have a 32″ or 27 ” format wishes. There is also a Multi View mode, where users can see content from two different sources and choose from which source the audio should be heard. So you can play a game and watch a video stream at the same time.

LG has not yet provided pricing information. It is also unclear when the LX3 will be released exactly and whether it will only remain with a 42 “format for the time being, or whether this bendable concept will also find its way to other OLED TV formats from LG Display.

Corsair previously showed a 45″ monitor that users can bend themselves. This monitor also has a panel from LG Display, although the aspect ratio is not 16:9, but 21:9. The resolution is also 3440×1440 pixels and not 4k as with the LX3 Corsair’s monitor also has a significantly higher refresh rate in the form of 240Hz.
