Lenovo showcased several new concepts at its Tech World conference, including a smartwatch that can project a second screen twenty times larger than the actual screen. The company also demonstrated a smartphone with a virtual keyboard.

According to Lenovo, the form factor of smart watches makes it difficult to display more on the screens except for notifications. To make smartwatches more usable, the Chinese company has therefore developed Magic View. The manufacturer uses a small projector to direct images to the user’s eyes through an optical element.

This virtual image would be up to twenty times larger than the image of the smartwatch screen. Lenovo mentions the display of maps, photos and video as applications. It is still a concept for the time being and the company has not yet provided many details about Magic View. However, Lenovo has designed its own chips to keep the components as small as possible, so it seems that the company is developing the system further.

In addition to Magic View, Lenovo showed Smart Cast. To do this, the company combines a smartphone with a built-in laser projector and infrared motion detector. This allows users to project a virtual keyboard onto a surface or display presentations on walls. In addition, the technology enables projection of games with gesture control. In the past, smartphones with projectors have appeared, such as the Samsung Beam, and there are also compact projectors for displaying keyboards on the market.
