Kioxia is making samples of its UFS 3.1 flash memory module with a capacity of 1TB available to smartphone manufacturers. According to Kioxia, the chip is the thinnest of its kind, with a height of 1.1mm.

The 1TB memory module uses Kioxia’s BiCS nandflash memory and its own controller. According to the manufacturer, this achieves read speeds of up to 2050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1200MB/s. Kioxia already introduced a series of UFS 3.1 memory modules for smartphones a year ago and then also spoke of a 1TB version.

UFS 3.1 flash storage is used in many smartphones. There are already smartphones that use UFS chips with a storage capacity of 1TB, but that only concerns a few copies. For example, at the time of the Galaxy S10 series, Samsung had a model with 1TB storage, but with the Galaxy S20 and S21 series, the maximum storage capacity is 512GB.
