Jordan’s Olympic Committee has opened a center devoted entirely to e-sports. In view of the possible introduction of e-sports at the Olympic Games in 2024, a special temporary committee is also being established to support the e-sports sector in Jordan.

The national Olympic committee hopes that the center will contribute to the growth of the sector. Amer Barqawi was among others present at the opening of the center; he is a well-known Dota 2 player of Team Liquid and recently won more than 9 million euros with his team at the Dota 2 tournament The International. Initially, the center aims to provide a place for Jordanian-based esports players and teams to practice for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games esports event. There, national teams compete against each other in games such as Dota 2, Hearthstone and Starcraft 2.

The establishment of the center is partly linked to the possibility of e-sports becoming a part of the Olympic Games. Recently, the chairman of the International Olympic Committee said the organization is considering allowing non-violent sports games such as e-sports into the Olympics. A deputy director of the Paris bid team, which will host the Olympic Games in 2024, has also previously expressed his interest in e-sports as a medal sport. E-sports will already be part of the Asian variant of the Olympic Games in 2018 and 2022: the Asian Games.
