Jolla has released version 1.0 of Sailifish OS. Sailfish has come out of beta with the fourth operating system update for the Jolla smartphone since its release in late November. In the coming period Sailfish OS will also be available for other smartphones.

With version 1.0.4.20 Ohijärvi, Jolla has made more changes in addition to shaking off the beta status: for example, the visual effects in animations have been tweaked, full synchronization is possible with Google Calendar, more settings for the camera app have been added and more apps work in landscape.

So far, Jolla has released an update every month on average since the release of the Jolla smartphone. To introduce users to Sailfish OS, the company will soon be making custom ROMs for popular Androids, such as Nexus devices, Samsung Galaxy phones and models from Sony’s Xperia line. There will also be a launcher for regular Android devices, in which the interface of Sailfish OS can be seen in the current firmware of users.

Jolla is a company founded by and mostly made up of former Nokia employees who worked on Maemo and MeeGo, the Finnish phone manufacturer’s Linux distros. Nokia discontinued its Linux devices in 2011. The only provider to date that sells the Jolla smartphone is the Finnish DNA, but the Jolla is for sale in all European countries for 399 euros.
