Tesla is developing its own chips for artificial intelligence, and prominent chip architect Jim Keller is working on this, among others. Elon Musk confirmed this during the conference for Neural Information Processing Systems.

Elon Musk did not give any further details about the chips or the project within Tesla for AI hardware, according to The Register. “I want to make it clear that Tesla is serious about artificial intelligence, both in terms of software and hardware. We develop our own AI chips,” said the Tesla CEO.

He added that Jim Keller is working on the AI ​​hardware. It’s no surprise that the well-known chip architect at Tesla is working on artificial intelligence hardware. Keller is vice president of the Hardware Engineering division and has previously been rumored to be working with AMD on chips for self-driving cars. Keller has worked on AMD’s K7 and K8 architectures in the past and at Apple developing the A4 and A5 socs.

Musk regularly warns about the risks of artificial intelligence. This technology is expected to play an increasingly important role in autonomous driving.
