Two years ago, Apple switched to USB-C with the iPad Pro, but with the other iPads, the trusted Lightning port remained. This may change with the latest iPad Air 2020. According to the Japanese website Macotakara, the fourth-generation iPad Air is equipped with USB-C instead of Lightning.

The website has heard of this from a Chinese supplier. It claims that the new iPad Air (4th generation) will have a USB-C connection. The 8.5-inch iPad mini that will be released this year would retain the Lightning connector. Furthermore, the supplier reports that the new iPad Air is based on the 11-inch iPad Pro. This is not surprising, as the current iPad Air has also been developed from the older 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Rumors of an 11-inch iPad Air, which will appear in the second half of 2020, have been previously reported. Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple is working on a 10.8-inch iPad. He was probably referring to the new iPad Air.

The fact that Apple uses parts of the 11-inch iPad Pro means that the home button with Touch ID disappears. You will probably unlock the device with facial recognition: Face ID. However, a mysterious Twitter sweet called @ L0vetodream claims that Apple is thinking of a different solution. He reported that Apple wants to continue to use Touch ID, but the fingerprint scanner will be placed under the screen.

Benefits

If the iPad Air switches to USB-C, this has all kinds of advantages. This input makes it much easier to connect all kinds of peripherals. You can connect a monitor to your iPad Air for extra screen space, or connect a USB-C dock for even more ports.
