Security company Sophos has been acquired. The buyer, private investor Thoma Bravo, has bought all the shares of Sophos for a total of about 3.5 billion euros. The announcement makes no further mention of a change of course under the new owner.

What Sophos does say in the announcement is that it expects to “accelerate its growth and product development” under the new regime. The company has been in existence since 1985 and went public in 2015. Relative to the initial share price, Thoma Bravo has paid 168 percent of its value per share. Sophos is an English company and Thoma Bravo is based in Chicago.

The intent to acquire Sophos was originally announced in October of 2019. All shareholders had to agree, which happened in December. The agreement is now complete. Shares of Sophos are no longer available on the exchange.

Sophos is known for products such as the XG Firewall, Intercept X and Sandboxie, but also the consumer package Sophos Home. In addition, the security company regularly makes the news with announcements about newly discovered vulnerabilities in hardware and software.
