The creator of the SMS, the Finn Matti Makkonen, died last week at the age of 63. The Finn invented SMS in 1984. SMS is now on the decline again.
Makkonen did not want credit for his invention, writes the Finnish site Ilkka. He saw the invention as a team effort. The Finn has never earned anything from SMS.
