Intel Introduces vPro for Small Business and Chrome OS Systems
Intel has announced its enterprise vPro platform for the twelfth generation of Intel Core processors. For the first time, there is an Intel vPro Enterprise for Chrome component of that platform, for business Chrome OS computers.
Intel divides its vPro platform along with Alder Lake processors into four segments: Intel vPro Enterprise for Windows, vPro Essentials, vPro Enterprise for Chrome, and vPro: an Intel EVO Design. The versions for Chrome OS and Essentials are new.
With vPro Essentials, Intel is targeting smaller businesses that want to take advantage of the security and management features of vPro. They can then use Hardware Shield protection for Windows PCs, among other things. Systems with vPro Enterprise for Chrome can use Intel Key Locker exclusively to store AES-NI encrypted passwords.
Intel’s vPro is a platform that Intel focuses on for business use and provides management and security features for systems with certain processors. For Chromebooks, for example, this applies to six processors. In all cases, these are desktop and laptop processors of the Alder Lake generation that Intel announced late last year and early this year.
Some functions are available for all four segments, others for some. For example, Total Memory Encryption Multi-Key for encrypting dram is only for vPro Enterprise for Windows and vPro Enterprise for Chrome. The Remote Platform Erase feature to erase the disk and purge the TPM module remotely is only available with Enterprise for Windows.
