Intel acquires network-on-chip technology company

Intel has acquired NetSpeed, an American maker of tools for automating the design of system-on-a-chips. The San Jose company will become part of Intel’s Silicon Engineering Group.

NetSpeed ​​Systems profiles itself as a provider of technology to make socs as quickly and cheaply as possible. The company’s tools help create SOC designs and layout the interconnects between chip parts. According to Intel, there is an increasing need for this type of technology as SOCs become larger and more complex.

NetSpeed’s network-on-chip technology is automated and scalable. Intel will make the acquired company part of its Silicon Engineering Group, the division led by Jim Keller, the chip architect who previously worked at Tesla and AMD, among others. Intel has not disclosed financial details about the acquisition.
