Innodisk unveils m2 video card
Innodisk is launching an m2 video card. The small plug-in card is capable of displaying images in 4k resolution with a refresh rate of 30 hertz and 1080p at 60 hertz. Output goes via hdmi, lvds and dvi-d.
For the outputs, the card has onboard headers that most likely connect to output slots intended for the back of a computer case. According to AnandTech, this 2280 m2 card has a chip based on the Silicon Motion SM768 controller. That would mean that the GPU has up to 256MB of memory and a 128bit-2d engine. The video decoder supports h264 mvc/avs+, h263, mpeg 4, mpeg 2, m-jpeg, realvideo, vc-1 and theora. The interface is PCI-E 2.0 x1/x2 or USB 3.0. However, the announcement itself does not contain any technical details, so it is possible that this information will turn out to be different.
With the card, Innodisk focuses on the industrial embedded sector, but the video card can also be interesting for the consumer. For example, although Intel processors often have an integrated video chip, AMD’s competing Ryzen CPUs do not. Anyone who wants to use such a Ryzen system, but does not want to have it paired with a conventional video card, could find a solution in this device. A price for the m2 video card is not yet known, nor is it clear when exactly it will end up in the hands of the consumer.
