Images show specifications of alleged AMD Threadripper Pro CPUs

Images have appeared showing some details of alleged AMD Threadripper Pro processors. The chips would include more memory channels and pci-e 4.0 lanes. AMD is planning to announce the CPUs on July 14th.

The purported specification image of the Threadripper Pro chips are published by Videocardz. The processors would use the current Zen 2 architecture. According to those images, AMD is coming with Threadripper Pro variants with 12 cores, 16 cores, 32 cores and 64 cores. The company’s current Threadripper line-up consists of variants with 24 cores, 32 cores and 64 cores. According to the leaked slide, the new Pro models are intended for use by professional studios, designers, engineers, or data scientists, for example.

The new chips would provide 128 pci-e 4.0 lanes, while the current Threadripper processors have 64 of these lanes. The new chips will also receive eight memory channels, with support for up to 2TB of DDR4-3200 memory, according to VideoCardz. With the current Threadripper chips this is four channels with a maximum of 256GB of DDR4 memory. In addition, the Pro variants must also support several different memory types.

Furthermore, the possible clock speeds of the Pro chips have also appeared at VideoCardz. The Pro variants are clocked 100 to 200MHz lower than their regular counterparts. The tdp of the chips remains the same; all Threadripper and Threadripper Pro CPUs have a tdp of 280W.

It is not clear whether the new Pro CPUs will work on the current TRX40 motherboards. Hardware.info writes that new motherboards with more memory channels and new chipsets may appear. Earlier there were already published possible benchmark results of the Threadripper Pro 3975WX with 32 cores. AMD is rumored to officially announce this Threadripper Pro series on Tuesday, July 14, VideoCardz writes. The suggested retail prices and exact release dates are not yet known.
