Iiyama has released its 27″ monitor with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels. The XB2779QQS-S1 is in the Pricewatch for just under eight hundred euros, making it the cheapest 5k monitor. The screen can be connected with one displayport 1.3 cable.

The iiyama ProLite XB2779QQS-S1 has been in the Pricewatch since Tuesday. At the time of writing, there are five online stores that offer the screen for prices between 783 and 799 euros. This makes it the cheapest 5k monitor to date, alternatives currently cost 1000 euros or more.

Because the iiyama screen has a displayport 1.3 connection, it can be connected with one cable to a video card that also has that version of the connection.

Displayport 1.3 provides enough bandwidth to display 5120×2880 pixels at 60Hz. The first 5k displays with displayport 1.2 required two cables and multistream transport, dividing the image into two pieces of 2560×2880 pixels.

Announced in 2014, Dell’s UP2715K display was the industry’s first 5k monitor. The Dell monitor was offered at the end of last year for just under a thousand euros, but is currently no longer available.

The iiyama 5k monitor has an IPS panel with a maximum brightness of 440cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1200:1. The monitor is adjustable in height and the screen can also be tilted ninety degrees.
