Chinese manufacturer Huawei has announced its Mate 9. Compared to previous Mate devices, the phone has a slightly smaller screen. In addition, just like in the P9, there is a dual camera, one of which has an RGB sensor and the other a monochrome sensor.

Where with the P9 the resolution of the monochrome camera is equal to that of the color sensor, that is different with the Mate 9. The new smartphone has a 12-megapixel camera with an RGB sensor and a 20-megapixel camera with a monochrome sensor. That monochrome sensor should capture more details.

Another adjustment is in Emui 5.0. According to Huawei, this learns from usage patterns, making it less likely to delete apps from the memory if the user starts them often. For example, frequently used apps must be available quickly more often. Emui 5.0 is based on Android 7.0.

This has many of the same specs, but has a smaller 5.5″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels with curvature on both sides, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The fingerprint scanner below the screen replaces the onscreen buttons. A short tap on the scanner stands for Back, a long press leads to Home and a swipe opens the multitask menu.
