An unannounced HTC tablet has appeared in the database of the organization Wi-Fi Alliance. The data shows that the tablet should run on the new Android L, but little else is known about the specifications.

Talk Android discovered that the database of the Wi-Fi Alliance, which provides WiFi-enabled devices with certification, includes a device called Flounder, an unannounced tablet from HTC. According to the data, the tablet is equipped with Android L, which was recently announced by Google but with which no devices have come to the market yet. In addition, it is clear that there is onboard support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The Chinese Upleaks reports in a Twitter message that there are also versions with lte support on the market come.

It is still unknown whether HTC wants to market the tablet with the name Flounder, or whether it is a code name. Earlier, details came out of an HTC tablet codenamed Volantis. This device will probably be released in Google’s Nexus program and will contain an 8.9″ screen and Nvidias Tegra K1 soc with 64-bit support. So it is still unclear whether the Flounder and the Volantis are the same models, because the former is still no further specifications are known.

The fact that the Flounder tablet has been provided with WiFi certification means that HTC is well advanced with the development. However, it is still unclear when the Taiwanese manufacturer will announce the tablet. HTC hasn’t released a tablet for several years.
