HTC has officially unveiled the U12+ smartphone. The new device will cost 799 euros and will include a new touch function with Edge Sense 2 that allows users to call up a reduced screen that is easier to operate with one hand.

According to the manufacturer, the HTC U12+ is able to determine which hand is used. Users can call up a mini screen with a double touch at the place where you normally squeeze, so that the device is easier to operate with one hand. By default, the screen view can be reduced by double tapping the side with the thumb.

By squeezing, for example, photos can be taken or a voice assistant can be called up. In addition, the phone has a software function that ensures that the screen orientation does not go from portrait to landscape mode at unwanted moments. When a user is in bed, for example, this should prevent the screen from tilting. It can also prevent the screen from dimming.

The smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-soc with a memory of 6GB. The storage has a capacity of 64GB or 128GB, depending on the variant. The phone has a 6″ LCD with a resolution of 2880×1440 pixels and unlike many other Android smartphones from recent months, it does not have a notch in the display.

The U12+ has a dual camera on the back. The primary camera has a resolution of twelve megapixels, a sensor with 1.4 micron pixels and a lens with an aperture of f/1.75. The secondary 16MP camera has a telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture that brings objects 1.85x closer. There is also a dual camera on the front.

There is a fingerprint scanner on the back of the case. Audio is via USB-C and a 3.5mm jack is therefore missing. That connection, with support for USB 3.1, is at the bottom. The phone measures 156x74mm, is 8.7mm thick and weighs 188 grams. The device runs on Android 8.0 and has a battery with a capacity of 3500mAh. The U12+ will be released in the second half of June.
