Huawei subsidiary Honor has presented its Magic 2 smartphone in Asia. The device has an OLED screen that covers almost the entire front, without a notch. Like the Vivo NEX and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, the phone has a sliding mechanism.
The screen of the Honor Magic 2 is a 6.39″ OLED with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. These are the same specifications as the screen in the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, which was announced last week. Like that device, the Magic 2 has a sliding mechanism that houses the front cameras. Honor also gives the Magic 2 a fingerprint scanner behind the screen, just like the OnePlus 6T and the Vivo NEX.
Honor equips the phone with three cameras on the front. It is a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 lens for taking photos and two 2-megapixel cameras with f/2.4 lenses, which are used to estimate depth.
There are also three cameras on the back of the device. The primary camera has a 16-megapixel sensor and an f/1.8 lens. In addition, there is a 16-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens. The third camera has a black and white sensor with a 24-megapixel resolution.
The device runs on the Kirin 980 soc, which is currently Huawei’s fastest soc, which is also in top models such as the Mate 20 Pro. The chip is combined with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of flash storage. Honor gives the phone a 3500mAh battery and provides it with Android 9 Pie with the EMUI 9 shell on top. The phone has a USB-C connection and space for two nano-SIM cards. A 3.5mm jack is missing.
Honor sells the Magic 2 in Asia through its Vmall web store. It is not yet known whether the model will also come to the Benelux. The subsidiary of Huawei does sell some of its devices in the low countries, but does not offer its entire range.
In China, the cheapest version, with 6GB of ram and 128GB of flash storage, costs 3799 yuan. Converted that is about 481 euros. If the device comes out in the Benelux, it will probably be more expensive. With 21 percent VAT, the price would be 582 euros.
